Why Sustainability, Why Now?

India’s 2030 climate targets and 2070 net-zero greenhouse gas goal have turned climate action into a core business priority. Much of India’s emissions come from power, manufacturing, transport, construction, and supply chains, so companies now need to measure carbon, cut it credibly, and report it transparently.

With BRSR/ESG expectations rising, organisations need job-ready talent that can
do carbon accounting, climate-risk analysis, & practical decarbonisation planning. This programme builds those capabilities through hands-on tools, real industry cases, & outcome-focused projects aligned to what companies are hiring for.

    Frequently Asked
    Questions

What does a typical day look like for an SBM student?

Students attend 2–3 instructor-led classes, participate in hands-on sustainability projects, and engage in CXO talks, industry practicums, SDG-focused workshops, and career counselling sessions. The day blends business learning with real-world sustainability exposure.

Can applicants tailor their Masters’ Union SBM programme?

Yes. SBM offers a wide range of sustainability, ESG, climate-tech, and circular economy electives. You can choose modules and immersion experiences that align with your career goals while still earning the same SBM certification.

Are the Scholarships the Same for PGP TBM and PGP SBM?

Yes, the scholarships available for both the PGP TBM and the PGP SBM are the same. For detailed information on the scholarship options, please refer to our admissions page.

How are students graded in SBM?

Evaluation is based on class participation, quizzes, projects, group assignments, fieldwork, and exams. Grading follows a standard normal curve (Z-curve), and students must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.1 to graduate.

What are the key benefits of the 12-month SBM programme?

The SBM is an accelerated, high-impact programme featuring:

    • 9+ months of academic and project-based learning

    • 3-month internship or industry immersion

    • Exposure to global sustainability hubs (US, UK, Europe, Singapore)

    • Strong pathways into careers in ESG, climate finance, clean-tech, impact consulting, and sustainable operations

Is SBM suitable for students without an environment or business background?

Yes. The programme includes foundational courses in sustainability, business, climate science, and analytics. Students from any academic background can excel with support from faculty, mentors, and hands-on learning opportunities.

What is the typical student profile for the SBM programme?

SBM attracts students from diverse academic and professional backgrounds—business, engineering, humanities, environmental science, finance and more.

If I am completing my undergraduate studies, is SBM right for me?

Yes. Fresh graduates can apply to the 12-month SBM programme. While prior work experience is helpful, it is not mandatory, and applicants who have completed or are completing their undergraduate degree are fully eligible.

    What's the minimum qualifying GPA?

Masters’ Union does not have a minimum GPA requirement as the GPA system is not a global grading methodology. We focus on the courses students have taken, grades received and overall academic performance.

Is there an age limit for entry?

No, there is no age limit for the SBM programme. Anyone who has completed their undergraduate degree — whether a fresher or a working professional — is eligible to apply. If you have significant work experience and want clarity on fit, you can reach out to the admissions team at admissions@mastersunion.org for personalised guidance.

Is there an age limit for entry?

There is no age limit for entry. However, the programme is most suitable for those who are at an early stage in their careers. If students have more work experience, we encourage them to get in touch with the admissions team at admissions@mastersunion.org , who will evaluate their profile and advise them accordingly.

If applicants don’t have a business background, will it affect my chances of admission?

Not at all. The SBM programme welcomes applicants from all academic fields — engineering, arts, law, social sciences, design, medicine, and more. What matters most is your interest in sustainability, your leadership potential, and your overall academic or project performance. A non-business background will not disadvantage your application.

If an applicant doesn’t have an undergraduate degree, can they still be considered for admission?

Yes! While the vast majority of our participants have undergraduate and/or advanced degrees, this is not compulsory for admission. Candidates who do not hold an undergraduate degree, but who have an excellent career record, examination scores and leadership potential are also welcome to apply. All those who will be completing their undergrad degree by May of the following year will be eligible to apply.

    Who are we looking for?

We are looking for a candidate who uses available opportunities to the best of their ability, is curious to learn new things, remains open to opposing viewpoints and new ideas, and exhibits strong leadership performance and potential.

Can applicants get a call back from Masters’ Union?

Can applicants defer their admission offer from Masters’ Union to the next year?

Is the admissions process different for the 3+1 Dual Degree UG Programme with Illinois Institute of Technology?

No, the admissions process for the 3+1 Dual Degree UG Programme is the same as the standard process. Applicants must apply through the regular admissions portal, and eligibility for the programme is assessed based on their academic performance, extracurricular activities, and an interview.

Will students have the option to choose the duration of transfer?

Currently, the programme is designed as a one-year transfer option. Students will spend their fourth year at Illinois Institute of Technology, completing the final year of their undergraduate degree as part of the 3+1 Dual Degree UG Programme.

When can the student decide if they want to opt for the 3+1 Dual Degree UG Programme with Illinois Institute of Technology?

Students are strongly encouraged to decide on opting for the 3+1 Dual Degree UG Programme before starting their undergraduate journey at Masters’ Union. Early confirmation ensures guaranteed seat allocation and allows for streamlined academic planning tailored to the programme's requirements.

While students may still choose to opt for the programme during their third year, this is subject to seat availability, which will be communicated at that time. Confirming at the beginning ensures a smooth transition and optimal preparation for their transfer to Illinois Tech.

Yes, the curriculum has been designed to ensure a seamless transfer between the institutions. Students will continue to build on the foundational and advanced topics they study at Masters’ Union.

Can students secure internships in the US while at Illinois Tech?

Yes, students will have access to Illinois Tech’s career services, which include internship placements, job fairs, and networking events with global employers.

What will I graduate with at the end of the programme?

Upon completing the programme, you will be awarded a Professional Certificate for Undergraduate Programme in Tech & Business Management by Masters' Union. What is the difference between the Masters' Union certification and the IIM Bangalore degree?

The Masters' Union certification focuses on an industry-integrated, tech-driven curriculum designed for business management professionals. The IIM Bangalore (BBA) degree is a traditional academic qualification offered with standard coursework and university examinations.

What makes the Masters’ Union Programme a better choice than earning the same degree from IIM Bangalore?

While the IIM Bangalore degree provides a strong academic foundation,Masters' Union offers real-world exposure from day one. Through outclasses and internships starting in Year 1, students gain hands-on experience with industry leaders from top companies like Microsoft, Google, and Zomato. This early exposure, combined with rigorous academic training, ensures that our students are not only academically strong but also industry-ready, with the highest CTC touching ₹61.5 LPA and an average CTC of ₹28.5 LPA, securing top-tier job offers even before graduation.

Is this an online degree, is it authentic?

Yes, the degree is awarded through IIM Bangalore’s online platform, making it an online degree. However, it holds the same recognition and value as any full-time IIM Bangalore degree.

How well is this degree recognised for higher studies abroad?

The degree awarded by IIM Bangalore is highly respected and recognised for higher studies abroad. With IIM Bangalore’s global reputation and the rigor of its curriculum, the degree holds significant international credibility, opening doors to top global universities and MBA programs for further education.

Can I still pursue the Masters' Union certification if I don’t enrol in the IIM Bangalore degree?

Yes, you can still complete the Masters' Union Undergraduate Programme in Tech and Business Management and earn the certification even if you choose not to enrol in the IIM Bangalore degree.
